Reporting
on some large number of indicators every 2 years will be valuable
to managers and scientists, but for the media and general population,
a more concise means of presenting information on the state of the
Great Lakes is needed. This is where index development comes in.
Two
indices were presented at SOLEC 2000 in order to generate discussion.
We
hope that the indices work started at SOLEC 2000 will continue and
additional indices will be developed.
