GLEI Senior Advisory Board

The GLEI Senior Advisory Board is charged with providing outside peer review and expertise for the project. The Advisory Board will meet with GLEI researchers each year for the duration of the project; the first meeting took place in April, 2001.

Board members, affiliations, and expertise:

Dr. Steven Bartell, The Cadmus Group, Inc., Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Expertise: Ecological risk assessment, ecological modeling, ecological problem solving, and ecosystem analysis.

Dr. Robert Brooks, Penn State Cooperative Wetlands Center, Pennsylvania State University.
Expertise: Wetland ecology, wetland hydrology, biological indicators, stream ecosystems, and avian ecology.

Dr. Thomas Burton, Department of Zoology, Michigan State University.
Expertise: Great Lakes coastal wetlands, wetland nutrient dynamics, freshwater invertebrate, fish, diatom, and plant communities, and wetland indicators.

Dr. Sushil Dixit, National Guidelines & Standards Office, Environment Canada.
Expertise: Diatom communities, water quality, sediment dating, and Great Lakes diatom assemblages.

Dr. Robert Hughes, Dynamac Corporation, Corvallis, Oregon.
Expertise: Ecological integrity of aquatic ecosystems, biotic indicators, landscape scale research, and aquatic system classification.

Dr. Lawrence Kapustka, Ecological Planning and Toxicology, Inc., Corvallis, Oregon.
Expertise: Ecological risk assessment, environmental toxicology, microbial ecology, hazardous waste site assessment, physiological ecology, and plant ecology.

Dr. Daniel McKenney, Canadian Forest Service, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Expertise: Landscape analysis, landscape modeling, ecological restoration, landscape ecology, population modeling, and ecological economics.

Dr. Daniel Simberloff, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Tennessee.
Expertise: Scientific methodology, population ecology and modeling, conservation biology, philosophy of science, ecosystem ecology, biogeography, landscape ecology, and invasion ecology.
